mother_of_god_seated_between_saints_theodoros_and_george-Motion.png

The Mother of God, holding the Divine Infant on her knees, is seated on a throne between two military saints, the young Saint George, and the older Saint Theodoros, both dressed as imperial guards. The two angels in the back are painted in the Hellenistic style, while the faces in the front clearly belong to other levels of reality, and allude to theological themes regarding the Incarnation. The Mother of God, and the Infant do not look directly at the viewer, and are juxtaposed to the rest of the scene in their realistic rendition.

The icon is most probably a work created in Constantinople as an imperial gift to the Monastery.
